Women’s political participation is one of the most debated issues in the Syria context. (available in arabic)

What is undisputed is the low representation of Syrian women, compared to their male peers, in decision-making and leadership positions. This paper includes an analysis of the Syrian Law on General Elections and related laws, by adopting a descriptive analytical approach, describing the phenomenon of low political participation for women and specifically, looking at the number of women in decision-making positions; leadership roles; their participation in parliament and local councils as well as the level of acceptance to run for office and to vote.
